Just saw the Emmys last night, and the only part I could appreciate were the dazzling movie stars! But the evening was supposed to honor top shows, not slinky ladies, so I remain stupefied!
OK, let's be positive. TV has shown us some fine dramas, including Mad Men and Big Love. Comedies? Maybe Glee. But the rest of it just does not grab this viewer.
Not that I have not given some of the shows a chance. I've watched Modern Family and said to myself, ok, older man marries young bombshell, son is gay...so what? I've tried 30 Rock, and except for the brilliant Tina Fey, the humor is weak. I've looked at so many others....
So I seek some valued input. What should I watch? Please give me some direction!
As for the Emmys themselves, I can't be too enthusiastic. Jane Lynch was brassy and daring, but she sort of grates on the nerves. The show was rather slow and uninspiring....like the rest of TV.
I'll stick with the movies...with just a few exceptions.
I didn't even know the Emmys were on until my sis called to tell me. My t.v. viewing has changed in the last few years. There is very little "regular programming" I specifically sit down to watch. I still enjoy The Office, Glee, and Mad Men. I still MISS Boston Legal and Big Love! There are HBO series I know are quality (Mildred Pierce, Boardwalk Empire), but when they are episodic, requiring time commitment on my part, and I may have missed the first one, I don't get to it. (Tom keeps saying we should rent the whole series, but then that would take CHUNKS of time.)
ReplyDelete...I agree about Modern Family. Watched it once. Yea, funny, but not WOW! Largely repetitive. The Good Wife is good, yet I don't sit down on a Tuesday night for it. Dexter is great (and dark comedy!), but I don't subscribe to Showtime. I offer little direction, friend. Much of my t.v. is now MSNBC, HGTV and Project Runway. I know that sounds pathetic. But with less drawing me in, I am getting more quality things done, maybe.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments, Valerie. Seems you too have been struggling to find your TV niche. I agree that some of the series are episodic, so it's tough to commit to them. I seem to miss the short specials, like Laurence Fishburne playing Thurgood Marshall. Can't say I've really enjoyed The Office much, although STeve Carrell is talented, as he showed in Date Night. Guess I'm a movie guy. But I will definitely watch Mad Men when it returns.
