Mad Men 8-8-10

This shall be brief.

I still love this show. I love stopping what I am doing and focusing on their world. BUT, if there is one more episode as lethargic, pointless, and devoid of balance or interest as this one was, I may have to write a letter and set Mr. Weiner straight.

One redeeming line: "Everyone else knows what's wrong with us when we can't see it." Hmmm, yea.

  1. Ah-hah, my esteemed colleague, I think you are moving toward my critical side! Yes indeed, the show is lacking right now. I actually found this third episode better than the first two. Your use of the word "lethargic" is perfect to describe the lack of zest, energy, creativity, and overall pizazz in our current series. Really miss the old style. Gee, Don is a kinder guy with his first wife...so what? ..and oh, let's add that she's now dying, which is about as hackneyed and soapy as a theme gets. Gee, Don initiates the stodgy Brit into his world of prostitutes....uh, sophomoric, don't you think? I'll stop there. Let's hope you write your letter to Mr Weiner, Valerie. He needs some help.

  2. FYI - the woman is not his first wife; she is the widow of the fellow soldier killed in Korea whose identity Dick - now Don - took on. She knows the whole story, but did not know him before this and they've never had a relationship.

I still hold to my having really liked the first two episodes. So, I must know...what in the world did you like about this one?

  3. Thanks for the plot correction...yes, now I recall who the woman is. Must go back and review the plot to see what touched me...maybe the fact that I can't remember says something about the level of the series this year.
